Derry Hinton Sr. is the senior pastor of the God’s Way Baptist Church, Tyler, Texas. In 2010, pastor Hinton, under God’s direction lead two churches to become one, for the formation of the God’s way Baptist Church. A native of Cuney Texas, pastor Hinton received Christ as his Lord and Savior in October of 1988 and received his call to the ministry a few months later in 1989, preaching his first sermon at the Rock Hill Baptist church in Cuney Texas.
Pastor Hinton is a loving husband, father and grandfather. He is married to Deanna Hinton of Crockett Texas, and they have been married for twenty-three years. They have been blessed with six children and twenty-one wonderful grandchildren.
He is a gifted bible teacher, and preacher, and believes that all Christians should be diligent students of the Word of God and must be enthusiastic in sharing their faith. He received his formal education and degrees from Emmanuel Bible Institute (Bachelors of Biblical studies), Jacksonville, Texas, Trinity Valley Seminary and College (Masters of Ministry), Kennedale, Texas,
Baptist Missionary Association Theological Seminary (Bachelors and Masters of Arts in Religion), Jacksonville Texas.
Pastor Hinton has been an educator in the public school system for twenty-two years and currently holds certifications in Special Education and ESL. He has been trained in Restorative Discipline by the Institute of Restorative Justice and Restorative Dialogue at the University of Texas in Austin and has trained with the institute for the last three years. He is passionate about building positive relationships and believes that churches have been great at religion but poor at relationships.
He enjoys spending time with family, friends, reading, fishing, and working in the yard. His passion for preaching and education has motivated him to work with preachers across East Texas in understanding the dynamics of sermon preparation and delivery. Pastor Hinton welcomes you to the God’s Way Baptist Church where our mission is to know Jesus and make Him known, in our community and abroad.
